SAN YSIDRO KINDERGARTENERS ARE CREATING A SCENE
San Ysidro Elementary kindergarteners will be show-casing their art in a brand new community art center in June, 2010.
BONITA, CA, March 05, 2010 /Education PR News/ -- San Ysidro School District's kindergarteners will be have an inaugural opportunity this summer to display their art in Casa Familiar's brand new arts, culture, and community development center, The Front.
The art exhibit is pioneered by San Ysidro School District's Assistant Superintendant, Gloria Madera, whose think-outside-the-box style and si se puede attitude empowered her to find a creative solution to budget-cuts: outsourcing. Ms. Madera tapped into community partnerships and resources to bring visual and performing arts to nearly 150 full-day kindergarteners at Beyer, Smythe, and Sunset elementary schools.
"We are excited about the strong partnership between Young Rembrandts, Escuela de Música, Casa Familiar, and the San Ysidro School District. The artists are producing outstanding art and the children are thoroughly engaged and interested in what they are learning," said Gloria Madera. "This will be a wonderful way to showcase their talent with the families and community."
"San Ysidro School District students and parents are thrilled about the masterpieces these children are creating. When we hear the students make the connection between their English language development and their drawings, that's when we know we did it right," said Lisa Yegin, Executive Director for Young Rembrandts in the South San Diego area.
The free art showcase will run for three-weeks at The Front located on San Ysidro Blvd from June 7 - 25th. Three nights will include a musical performance by Escuela de Música. The public is welcome to attend. For more information, please call (619) 863-5327.

More about Young Rembrandts
For 20 years, Young Rembrandts has taught the power of drawing to children. It partners with day care centers, pre-schools, elementary schools and community recreation centers to supply or augment the current art program offerings. Young Rembrandts teaches drawing, the fundamental skill of all visual arts to children aged 3 ½ to 12. The proprietary method and step-by-step curriculum dispels the myth that art is a talent a child has or doesn't have, and demonstrates that art can be learned by all children.
In 2000, Bette and her husband, Bill Fetter, franchised Young Rembrandts Inc. Currently, Young Rembrandts teaches about 30,000 students each week nationwide. The goal, Fetter notes, is to reach at least 200,000 students across the nation through parent-funded programs.
